Hi there, can anyone tell me what sort of back pack is required for the race? What size, brand and where I might get one? On line or at the shops? Smiley

Hi Kylie....I ran with a Salomon XA25, a large bag with a large inbuilt waterproof pocket (waterproof 'dry sak' like Seatosummit is mandatory gear). This pack was probably/definitely too big and would recommend something smaller, I'm thinking perhaps the XA20 but then I'll need to get a dry sak too. The shoulder straps on these bags don't look like much but they fit well and are quite comfortable. On average you will carry about 4 - 5 kg.
Hope this helps? Check out www.wiggle.co.uk too! : )

Hi Kylie,

I used a Salomon XA20 with a 2litre bladder.  It was ideal for me; plenty of storage for the mandatory gear, side pockets for gels, trail mix and vegemite sandwiches.  Also didn't need to carry more than 2 litres as the checkpoints are just close enough together to fill up as you go.  Best source, as Regan suggests is www.wiggle.co.uk.  My Partner, Jaci just got the Ladies version of the XA20, which she ordered prior to TNF but they ran out of stock.  She ran with a Camelbak Mule, and she wasn't really happy with it.  Hope that helps too.
