Can anyone familiar with the area guide me towards a restaurant where I can get a nice pre-race dinner for under $100? Katoomba and the surrounds seems to be full of fine dining and cheap Asian-- I just want a nice fresh meal!

Opposite the front door of Carrington hotel directly across the road on Katoomba st (Main st of Katoomba) There are 3 or 4 restaurants in aline. there all about the same in price and quality, boutique & casual. $17 to $30 for a main. Because its a cluster of them your probably best head there and you should find something to suit you. Best of luck

Im staying in leura and there is not much there in terms of choice especialy later in the evening

The golf club opposite the Fairmont is good, cheap beers for support crew and the food was good.

There was a great little Thai place at Leura. I cannot remember the name but it is in the mains street.

Had it twice last year and went to some pizza pasta place in Katoomba the night before.

Across the road from Carrington sounds good Paul... I had a meal at the Best Western Katoomba in 08 TNF100 eve. Never again.

you can't go past papa dino's on the main street up the top end on RHS heading towards the station. all the best italian for reasonable prices... and papa himself is working most nights (at least he was a year or so ago)...
he also sports a fine 'neck beard',, unintentional i think. he just seems to forget to shave underneath the main beard area...
plus you'll often run into climbers regaling each other with tales of the day's epic adventure on the steep stuff... grossly exaggerated stories of bravado (ive been guilty of this numerous times)

If you can get a few towns up to blackheath, there is a big pub called the Gardeners Inn. Awesome food, big feed (like deep pot pies that are enormous)
