Who fancies a run out on Saturday 16th April Planning to set off from CP3 around mid day (flexible) and follow the course round to CP4 have a quick rest then head out to CP5 and then a final burst round to the finish line will allow us to get a bit of feel for that last part of the race and some valuable experience running in the dark
putting it out there to you all to see who's interested and we can iron out the logistics over the next couple of weeks
cheers Ray

Hi ray Don't know if this helps - Keen to run the legs from CP4 to CP5 and to finish. I'm actually working at Fairmont till 10.30am so can get car shuffle going after then. Can meet you at Aquatic Centre, CP4 at a certain time or at top of Nellies Glen. Cheers, Tony.

Nice one Tony have a few others that have I been training with who may be coming as well (two of them just did Canberra marathon so will have to see how they are) and there have been a couple of emails sent through that I've only just replied to (sorry Monica and Stephen) think we'll do like you suggested and concentrate on CP4 (meet at Aquatic centre at 12 noon) then head out to CP5 and then round to finish who knows we may even feel like a night run along part of the first leg but lets wait and see will be good to get an understanding of that back part of the course especially as I'll be running/crawling it in the dark on race day lol !!! to those worried about pace, dont be, the idea is to run/walk in company and let ourselves get an understanding of this stage of the course my number is 0430 400024 so if anyone else fancies joining us for part or all of the run either call/text or let us know on this forum or email raymond.howells@hotmail.comcheers Ray (824)

Its also been suggested (by Ben and Tony so you know who to blame that we try a little run down Nellies Glen and back to CP4 first so we can enjoy the stairs!! would certainly get the blood pumping will let consensus dictate and if everyone likes that idea we could try that first. let us know what you think

Good luck Chris and Adrian with the negotiations! let us know if we need Kofi Anan to assist!!! the more we have the better. there will be a mixture of paces I suspect and we can figure that out on the day.
latest arangements are
1200 meet at CP4 Aquatic centre (some of us are going to meet up at CP5 at 11am to leave a support car there so if anyone wants a lift from there to CP4 it can be arranged)
what is everyones thoughts on doing Nellies first (sounds like its worth a visit)

Well done to everyone on the run on Saturday We set off from CP4 at 1230 it was 9°C wet windy and visibility down to 50 metres but it cleared up (sort of) and we had a great run (Tony you should have come mate the weather wasn’t too bad once we got down into the valley) It was a good test of our gear and for me the XTC top was fantastic to run in (did start with the TKA100 and the water proof jacket on but took these off once we were down in the valley where the wind wasn’t as intense)
the CP4 to CP5 leg is defo split into two sections Jamison Valley and Kedumba! First part Jamison Valley starts with an easy run round to the giants stairway where you need to be careful on the descent (especially if it’s wet like it was on Saturday - very slippy) then its a pretty easy run round to Jamison Creek followed by 6k of running/walking up Kedumba (for those who haven’t experienced it, when you wash your feet in the second creek that’s when you start the long walk up Kedumba, not much running happening for most of this section for us) The views from the top of Kedumba walls are just amazing (not that we'll see them when we go up in the dark on race day!)
We had a 15minute stop to refuel at CP5 then ran round to the fairmont. this was great fun running in the dark with the rain coming down on us! Need to be real careful as there are some pretty nasty drops (at one point we nearly managed to run straight off a rocky outcrop!!) The fun part was when we hit the stairs! How evil are the race organisers sticking these stairs in at the end of the run! My legs were burning doing them after 33k’s and I cant imagine how they will be after 98k’s!!!
Really glad we went and experienced this section especially given that we anticipate running most of these two sections in the dark come race day
Now bring on the big day!!!

Yeah wish I'd run with you. On my way home got stuck in a traffic jam between medlow and blackheath after a car smash and the guilt got the better of me for being a softcock and bailing. Took a detour and ran Evans Lookout-Pulpit Rock-Hat Hill Rd-Popes Glen-Evans Lookout and Braeside Walk - exactly 21.1km (did a few laps around car to make that!) in 3 hours with all race kit in shitty weather up and down some hilly step and trail terrain. First tryout for the Salomon 10+3 pack and it was awesome. Looking forward to Mt Solitary next week!
