Hi everyone,
This is a question for people who have completed the 100km race and have one of those watches that measure calories. I know that they are not that precise, but what did your watches say for calories used for the full race? (please specify if Kj or cal). Thanks!

Hi Ana, I'm buying into the Hammer nutrition mantra which is we can only take in as many calories as our body can handle. So regardless of how much I'm burning, I can only absorb 150-250 calories and about 500ml per hour. All this of course is assuming you're checking on nutrition during the race and not how much pizza and ice-cream you can have after. I'm having as much of both (and beer) and my tummy can hold for 3 days after. Check out their website for advice. I'm planning on using Hammer Perpetuem with a few gels as backup in case I go longer than expected. http://www.hammernutrition.com/

Thank you, Osbert. I was actually just curious about the number of calories because of some research I am doing, but I totally agree with you - and it was good to see what you put in numbers per hour, that's really a good reference.

Hi Ana My Garmin 305 is pretty ropey when it comes to calorie calcs as it doesn't take into account your heart rate, but for the record it came up with 8100cal
I was then 84kgs, 6'1", and did it in 13 hours 26mins
Hope this helps, Andy

Hi Ana, my total cals for the race were 7079 in 17:28. Felt like I could eat a horse and chase the rider the next morning, once the nausea passed! Had about 8 hours that I required Stemetil at I felt so sick!
How did you go? At the end I said it was great but NEVER AGAIN! Yet 24 hours later I can't wait to go back! Just don't tell my husband that!
Simone

Forgot about this.
6472 calories in just under 26hrs. 5'10" 72kg Male.
I hated the Perpetum after CP4. Couldn't keep it down and went back to gels. I think the mistake I made was to make it too thick for the long stage. Would also skip the Endura drinks, as I find it too bland, and replace with Gatorade stashed at the bag drops. Endurolytes (2 per hour) seemed to work as I had no cramping issues.

Thank you everyone for the information! Simone - for me it was great, I also can't wait to be back! We probably met, as I finished 30 mins after you! Just another question about the calories - what's you weight? I also could eat a horse, not only the day after but the whole week after the race!

Hey Ana I can give you this year's results too!
My garmin 305 only clocked 95.7kms this time, so I don't know if that makes a difference, Anyway it says I burnt 8100Cal (same as last time) The difference is that I am still 6'1" , but now 82kgs (down from 84kgs last year) Finished in 11:40, so 1hr 46min faster than last time. I would have expected to burn of quite a bit more, so would assume it shows the limitation of the watch. Cheers Andy
