Love my new Salomon XA advanced skin 12! Had read about them on the ultra168 website, and then happened to bump into a girl using one later that week. Put my order in for Christmas and loving it already. Initally I got a little lost finding where I had put everything (it has so many convenient pockets!), but it fits like a glove, doesn't overheat me, and everything is pretty much in reach. It only comes with a 1 1/2 L bladder, but am told you can easily replace it with a 2 or 3 L one - yet to find a stockist for the two litre salomon however. The bladder clips off at the hose - so don't need to unthread it when refilling, and everything has a convenient store location. Am using a couple of nathan bottles of electrolytes in addition to the bladder, and just love it!

PS the racing the planet store in Hong Kong has current stock, $20 delivery fee to Australia regardless of quanity ordered, and delivery took just over a week!

Hi there

I'd recommend the Salomon Packs.  They're awesome quality and very light and durable.  I will be running with the same pack from two years ago.  The main thing is to get something light that comfortably fits all of the compulsory gear.  The Salamon packs can take a 3L water bladder which is what the TNF100 race requires.

read some awesome reviews and am very keen to get one, but am not sure if it would fit all TNF100 required gear...

Are there any girls out there that can give me advice on a suitable pack? I find the guys ones are too big in the shoulders. I am 5ft tall/52kg.

Dionette, my weight and height similar to yours and last year i used the women's model of the Salamon XA20 backpack and it suited me really well. Prior to that i had tried two others which weren't as comfortable.

Just wondering if the Salamon Advanced Skin 12 is big enough to accomodate all mandatory gear and 2L of water?

Yes it is. Depends on how creative you are in packing. I probably won't be using the bladder for water. Instead I will use the fuel belt by Nathan and 1 600ml bottle.

Question for those using the Advanced Skin 12 pack:

Are you able to fit a 2Litres bladder in there?
If so, does it bulge out too much at the back of the pack and makes it uncomfortable to wear?

I've replaced the standard bladder in the Salomon Skin 12 with a 2L model from Camelbak with great results. Make sure you get the Antidote series as it's more squat than the Omega series and fits in the pack a lot better. It's also lighter and has the same hose system as the existing Salomon bladder so you can interchange the two without having to switch hoses. I personally prefer the Camelbak bite valve system over anything else too.

You'll lose the heat shield that Solomon provide for the smaller bladder but I'll bet anyone who's done this event before will advise that slightly-warmed drinking water won't be an issue with the cold we'll be facing!
