Hi Guys,

Just wondering where in Sydney people have bought all their gear from?

Im good for a jacket and headlamps but thats about it.

Any ideas where to get a high vis safety vest? Not having much luck with that.

also where can i get cheap waterproof pants? i would never wear these in a million years whilst running in any conditions so just the cheapest pair to get buy would be great.

Also whats a 100-weight sleeve fleece top?  And any ideas where i can pick up a cheap one from?

HI

I have got most of my dear from Northface in Pitt St Sydney.

You need to get gear that will work and is tough, you dont know what conditions we might face. You dont want to end in hospital just for buying cheap gear.

No i appreciate that. But who ever runs in waterproof pants? Even in torrential 4 hr downpours I have never worn anything slightly waterproof.

Understand having a fleece of course and thats fair enough. Was just wondering if there was a cheap shop which stocked cheap waterproof pants.

Rainbird brand make chaep rain pants. I got mine at Camping World - $30 for basic model, $40 for 'breathable'. They're only breathable in the sense that air can get in through the leg holes... But i figure if I'm ever in such desperate condition that I want to wear them, I won't mind that they make my legs hot.

They're quite light too - I forget what they weigh but it's not much.

last year I got most stuff from a local camping/outdoor store.  The waterproof pants were lightweight nylon and not cheap but not too expensive, not very breathable but prob not required anyway as not likely to run in them.  I still haven't worn them so they should be waterproof. All outdoor stores should have the waterproof bags and map cases.  The safety vest was only a few dollars on special from Kathmandu together with the space blanket.  I had trouble finding waterproof matches but I think they handed them out at the event with a fire lighter.
If I had to spend money on anything I would have invested in a better head torch, mine wasn't too bright so I used a hand held as well.  That worked fine.
A 100 weight Fleece is a lightweight fleece which I had anyway.

Thanks Mike and Paul.

I'll have browse for those rainbird pants. Like you said, unlikely you will need them.

Kathmandu near me too so i'll have a hunt around at lunch for that gear too.

i bought a cheap headlamp for about $30 as my backup lamp. Taking it for a test run in the mountains in a couple of weeks to see how that goes, then i'll no doubt invest in something much better to see me through.

Hey guys you may also want to try this internet based shop:

http://www.racingtheplanet.com/store/shop-by-event/distances/100-kilometer-trail-race.html?p=2

They are based in HK so are very cheap and the service from them is pretty good and I and others I know have had no problems..... I have saved loads buying my gear on here instead getting the same thing here in Melbourne!

You can also shop by event (100km trail run) and the sizing spec s are pretty accurate!

Hope it helps

Have spent the last couple of months losing weight so dont want to put it all back on with heavy gear, suggestions re waterproof top welcomed, have done the last 2 but only half, and have always been gobsmacked at the size or lack there of in runners packs.

Starting weight this year needs to be under 95kg including gear.

See you there.

Hi

I was wondering the same thing, and in the end i bought most of the compulsary gear life water proof coat and pants from ebay, i didnt pay more than $10 for each item and they will tick the boxes for compulsary gear, they were also very lightweight.
I also bought compression gear from ebay also, i know its cheap and cheerful but im only planning ot wear it once on this race, i paid $5 each and i have been using them often with no problems

I bought my hi-vis reflective vest for $5 from the Go-Lo in Katoomba before the 2008 race - still going strong! GOLD!
